What to Wear to a Winter Engagement Party

Table of Contents

With so many people getting engaged after the holiday season, don't be surprised if you 1) see a friend's bling next to a coffee mug that says 'Does this ring make me look fat?' via social media and 2) get an invite to an engagement party.

Not every couple hosts such a fete, but for those who do, they usually invite their nearest and dearest to formally announce their wedding plans and celebrate the engagement.

The bride-to-be will most likely wear white, but even if she doesn't, it's best to steer clear from white outfits so as not to confuse anyone and/or outshine the future bride. That doesn't mean you can't dress to impress though! Or at the very least, feel comfortable and beautiful.

Wondering what's appropriate to wear to a friend's engagement party? This outfit should get you through the winter season and fit any venue style. This serves as a basic guide, a little inspiration, so feel free to add or take away as you see fit.

We're going for simple elegance with this winter engagement party outfit. It's classy and unique, but not so over-the-top that other guests wonder if you're trying to steal the show. The overall gray palette serves as a base so that you can add pops of color if you wish, like with a violet clutch (and notice how the bow compliments the dress sash).

Since the short evening dress is already designed with floral lace details, there's no real need for jewelry, as something like a necklace might take away from the dress. If you want to add sparkle/color, tuck a crystal comb into your hair or wear a pair of understated earrings in silver.
