One of the most important things to do before ordering your wedding dress, either standard or custom, is to know your body measurements. Getting accurate measurements will ensure that your dress fits properly and flatters your figure.
To get the most accurate measurements, keep these tips in mind:
- If you're ordering a standard size dress, check your measurements and compare them to our dress size charts.
- If you're ordering a custom size dress, take your measurements or have them professionally taken by a tailor and carefully follow the measurement instructions we email you after you've submitted your order.
- Don't measure over your clothing. Instead, wear your bridal undergarments (or something similar) and measure from there.
- Don't pull the measuring tape too tight or give it too much slack. Something between the two is just right!
How to Measure Dress Size
This is just a general wedding dress size guide, so please read over the instructions we send you if you're ordering a custom size dress.
Bust size: Measure around your chest at the fullest point - not under the bust.
Waist size: Measure around your natural waist. To find your waist, stand up straight and bend over to one side. The crease that forms is where you should measure from.
Hip size: Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips.
Hollow-to-hem length: Your length measurement is taken by measuring from the center of your collarbone to the hem of your dress. Because you'll need to stand up straight to get the most accurate measurement, have a friend or professional tailor help you with this one.
Be sure and wear shoes with a similar heel to your wedding shoes while taking the hollow-to-hem measurement, so as to get the correct length.
How to Use a Dress Size Chart
If you're ordering a standard size dress and want to find out which size will fit you best, have your measurements on hand and compare them to our dress size chart.
Keep in mind that to get the most flattering fit possible, you'll want to order to your largest measurement. For example, if your bust fits a size 8, your waist fits a size 6, and your hips fit a size 12, then you'll want to order a size 12 and have the rest tailored to fit properly.
